2009-2010 Projects: Started by having student join a NING network.  Each level of Spanish has their own network.  Students who are aged 13+ can join a Ning network the teacher creates.  Ning is similar to facebook, allows the teacher/administrator to get emails with all activity.  Ning can be found at Ning.com

First project: Collaborative Reports

Spanish levels 1-3

Students used Voicethread or Showbeyond to prepare a presentational report with specific details about a sport, animal or country.

Second Project: Bell Ringers

Spanish levels 1-3

Task for students when they enter the classroom to get them thinking in Spanish. Use of the NING to communicate with partners in both schools. Have weekly topics with deadlines to practice using Spanish.

Third Project: What Not to Wear

Spanish 3 students

Video: iMovie, Flip cameras, e-mail, video transfer sites

Collaboration part of it.

Fourth Project: Web Quest

Spanish 1 students

Students use the Ning to communicate, Skype, prezi, voicethread and slideshare to do research and present on what they would include in their "store" based off the web quest requirements.

Fifth Project:  Preterit progressive stories/movies

Spanish 2 students

NF students started a video story; VM created the middle part of the story; SH students created the ending of the videos and compiled them.

2010-2011 and 2011-2012 projects:

Click on the links to see the quarterly projects.

We connected over the summer to fine tune our lessons and line them up so that we could plan a project once a quarter for levels 1-3 and ongoing communication and connections for Spanish level 4.

Spanish 4:  Blogging and connecting on a story they will read in class and blog about their thoughts etc. Students will then cross-communicate with the students from the other schools on the story.  Made this very easy to continue collaboration with class sizes varying from each school.  http://spanish4collaboration.wikispaces.com/

Spanish 3: Once a quarter a project.  The first and second projects have students creating a story about each other's vacation in the past based on photos, then sharing their story in the second project the students will reflect on the "real" story and compare the two.  http://spanish3collaboration.wikispaces.com/

Spanish 2: Students connected by building a story with pictures about a destination location.  Using various descriptors to describe the location and what happened. Students will continue with collaborating in a different sense via a competition in explaining the difference between Ser and Estar.  http://spanish2collaboration.wikispaces.com/

Spanish 1: Students will begin by introducing one another through a blog and learning about one another through basic questions and answers in Spanish. http://spanish1collaboration.wikispaces.com/

Video conversion to be able to dub over commercials etc from Youtube: www.keepvid.com (allows you to directly place onto your desk top to edit).

Google docs---sign up for a free gmail account.  At the top of the page click on DOCUMENTS

Then you can go to FILE and under file there are word, spread sheet, power point, draw etc. that you can create and share with whomever.  you can make forms, surveys etc for students to take off there.

One nice thing with google documents is that you can create a google calendar, post all of the students assignments and share with the student.  Then if ALL classes did this the student has one calendar with different colors for each class and all assignments posted electronically.  Really cool!
